Backline breadwinners

In this video we’ve got another great opportunity to learn from a touring guitar tech & fellow audio practitioner Daniel Simpson out of Australia. While Dan does work in various audio related roles throughout the year, his primary bread and butter touring role of late has been that of Guitar Technician.

You might not have thought guitar technicians & backline technicians have a whole lot to do with live sound, they tune guitars and change strings, right? The more I’ve learned about the roles they play on-stage though, executing the performance alongside the artist, the more interested I’ve become in their craft. In many cases, they are the ones who create, build and maintain some of the more interesting technological aspects of modern stage shows, all done while traveling around the world nearly non-stop.

What's In Your Kit? Touring Guitar Tech edition with Dan Simpson?

When you watch touring veterans like Chad Zaemisch & Justin Crew go through the technology they’re using to execute a Metallica tour backstage, you see just how closely involved everyone is these days in getting the best possible sound through the PA system. It’s an incredible partnership between all the members of a crew & it’s great to have Daniel to show us around his world from an audio pro’s perspective in guitar world.
