Audinate’s AVIO Raw Modules?

Dante CatBOX

Would you buy raw Dante modules if they were available to the public? They are already available to manufacturers right now, but why not everyone else? Many people have already reached out to let us know what projects they would use them for. We have heard ideas ranging from basement experiments, to sound companies wanting to retrofit gear they already own. They would rather not buy the entire AVIO assembly they don’t need, just to discard it.

To be clear, we’re not talking about the raw chips, rather the module that is inside the Avio. The Avio modules are turn-key board. They ready to use and only need soldering to connect whatever i/O connectors you want to use. Some suggest if these were sold to the public, it would only serve to tarnish the Dante name. If any failures were to happen with the modified gear, the Dante name would surely suffer. That is an absurd notion.

Pro Audio has a long history of end users building solutions to problems. We modify gear and take pride in making repairs on the fly to keep the show going. In over twenty years in the industry, I can’t think of single manufacturer who’s gear has never failed. This video was intended to collect your comments. To pass them along to Audinate, in an attempt to ask them to do this. To be clear, this is not asking for access to develop products using their individual Dante chips. The ask is simply to buy what they already sell, without the parts a lot of us don’t need.

Pro Mods

This idea that modifying professional gear is scary or will end up damaging a companies reputation needs to die quickly. There isn’t a trade in the world who’s workers don’t modify and customize their tools to do what they need. When those modifications go wrong, we judge those who made the modification & if they were idiots or not. We don’t blame the manufacturer, unless they deserve it.

This is (obviously) not a sponsored video. However, the Avio adapters were originally sent over by Audinate for demonstrations on this channel.
